PMI are showing signs of recovery.

U.S. industrial production fell 0.2% in November. Consensus was at 0.1%, October reading was at 0.7%.

(For November 2011) ISM Manufacturing Index was reported at 52.7 vs. prior reading of 50.8 and consensus of 51.8.

November Chicago Purchasing Managers Index At 62.6

Chicago Purchasing Managers Index was reported at 62.6. Consensus was at 58.5, prior reading at 58.4.

October Philadelphia FED General Business Conditions Index At 8.7

Philadelphia FED General Business Conditions Index rose from -17.5 to 8.7. Consensus was at -9.4.

October Empire State Manufacturing At -8.5; U.S. Industrial Production Rose 0.2% In September

Empire State Manufacturing General Business Conditions Index for June came out at -8.5 vs. -4.0 consensus and prior reading of 8.8.

U.S. industrial production rose 0.1% in May. Consensus was at 0.2%, April reading was at 0.0%.

Smaller slowdown than expected, positive surprise.

April Philadelphia FED General Business Conditions Index At 18.5

Philadelphia FED General Business Conditions Index fell from 43.4 to 18.5. Consensus was at 36.9.

As I wrote march reading was clearly an outlier, so this is a kind of normalization.

April Empire State Manufacturing At 21.7

Empire State Manufacturing General Business Conditions Index for April came out at 21.7 vs. 17.0 consensus and prior reading of 17.5.

Positive surprise.

March Philadelphia FED General Business Conditions Index At 43.4

Philadelphia FED General Business Conditions Index rose to 43.4. Consensus was at 32.0, prior reading was at 35.9.

This is a positive outlier, it is highly unlikely that index can remain at these levels. Manufacturing surveys overestimate implied industrial growth in recent months.
