Book Reviews: Reminiscences of a Stock Operator By Edwin Lefèvre & Reminiscences of a Stock Operator Annotated Edition By Edwin Lefèvre and Jon D. Markman

Reminiscences of a Stock Operator is fictionalized biography of Jesse Livermore – to this day one of most famous financial speculators of all time. In short, Mr. Livermore started trading at young age; he earned first $1,000 at age of fifteen; during his life he experienced major successes and failures; he earned $3,000,000 and $100,000,000 (something like $1.3 billion in todays money) after 1907 and 1929 crashes and subsequently lost both fortunes.

The legend says that Livermore wrote the book and Edwin Lefèvre served as editor and advisor.

Reminiscences of a Stock Operator is an insight into trader and speculator mind; it is written in first-person and covers the life of main character. Most valuable part of the book is the main character depicting the markets; his development as a person and trader; what moves them and how you can profit from it.

This is the most popular book among traders interviewed for original Market Wizards book.

The book is fun to read, only it takes an effort to investigate market structure of the time to fully understand technical aspects of trading.

Annotated version compares fiction in the book with real life of Jesse Livermore, places, people and firms that are part off the book. It also explains Livermore trading strategies and explains his psychological development.
